Paper Collage With Found Materials

I gathered the leaves, twigs and bits of bark while teaching a workshop at a beautiful canoe club in Calgary. I used them in a demonstration of collage-encasing techniques and later assembled them into this collage, which brings back pleasant memories of the workshop. The background is hand-tinted rice paper and strips of tinted tissue paper adhered to illustration board. Each object used in the piece was first sealed with gloss medium, then adhered to the background with acrylic gel mediium. The collage is three-dimensional; the shadows you see are from the lighting. Try it for yourself--read my project on nature collage. You will find a step-by-step demo of this collage on p. 137 of Exploring Color.
